At approximately 9:15 the district was made aware, by PA State Police, of
screenshots circulating a snapchat message alleging violence against a school. The
messages did not indicate a particular school as a target since the message was very general.
Pennsylvania State Police were made aware of this last night and have been working into the night to follow every possible lead to determine both the origin and validity of the message.
Ultimately, with the resources of PSP, they were able to determine these messages were part of a larger Snapchat hoax and there is no credible threat to our schools. We have learned the message can be traced to Frederick County, Virginia.

Attention Parents/Guardians:
There were questionable emails sent to students at the middle school and high school. Some of the emails contained disturbing images. We were made aware of this situation this morning and took immediate action to lock the accounts and go through each account individually. Our IT department is working to resolve this issue as quickly as possible. Thank you.

Dear Parents and Guardians:
As you are probably aware by now, we will be experiencing a solar eclipse on Monday, April 8th. According to the information available on nasa.gov, the eclipse will begin in Saxton next Monday at 2:02 P.M. and conclude around 4:30 P.M. The total eclipse, or the time the sun is covered by the moon, will last about four and a half minutes in the middle of that timeframe. Experts agree that looking directly at an eclipse can do permanent harm. Because this eclipse will take place as we load buses for the ride home, we will be reminding all of our students right before dismissal to notice the change of light, but not to look at the eclipse itself. We will also have increased teacher presence outside during dismissal to remind students. Our after school activities will proceed as usual, but students will be kept inside until the eclipse had concluded.
Normally, we would be taking advantage of this rare educational event, but due to the timing, we are not able to. In the event your schedule permits and you would like to experience this rare event with your child, we will excuse an early dismissal as educational. If you choose to take your child home early, you may pick him or her up at or before 1:30 p.m. If you would like us to dismiss your child early for the eclipse, please contact your child's school office by noon on Friday, April 5, 2024, to assist with our planning efforts.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding this notification, please feel free to contact your child's principal or myself. Thank you in advance for your attention and cooperation regarding this matter.
Sincerely,
Dr. Jerry Shoemake
Superintendent
